What do you do to feel feminine?

This blog post was very much inspired by a friend that has become very dear to me over the past year.  In honour of International Woman's Day we conversed this morning about being a woman, feeling feminine, and allowing ourselves to be emotional.  My clients confide in me about a wide variety of topics.  I'm so grateful that I've been able to create a calm and cozy space for you all to share what's going on in your personal lives so openly.  You should know that when you leave the studio I don't forget about you.  I'm proud of you when you accomplish life tasks, and I worry about you when you're going through something!  If you take only one thing away from the rest of this post I want you to know this.. the esthetics industry isn't about vanity for me, it's about building relationships, showing compassion, and providing services that allow people to feel cared for.

Self care is something that I've wanted to write a blog about for a very long time.  Quite honestly though I find the topic incredibly intimidating.  Self care can mean so many different things to different people.  It's defined as "any activity that you do voluntarily which helps you maintain your physical, mental or emotional health."  Whoa, that's a wide spectrum. What does self care mean to you?

As a woman, my self care rituals are all in pursuit of feeling feminine.  It's part of the reason I love working in the beauty industry.   Last year I wrote a blog post titled Alison, and if you haven't read it Alison is the woman that inspired and encouraged me to pursue a career in esthetics (You can read it by clicking here).  It all started with a monthly nail appointment, and now here I am!  When I need to feel feminine or even just in control of my own life I do things like paint my nails, get my lashes done, give myself an at home facial, crawl into bed early... etc.  Self care doesn't have to be expensive or take a lot of time out of your day.  Simple habits like getting your brows done once a month, doing healthy meal prep, reading a book, or taking a bubble bath can be enough!

"Self care is not self indulgent, self care is self respect" is my favourite quote of all time, and if you follow Novo Esthetics on Instagram then you may have seen it a few times before.  It's okay to be 'girly', to be emotional, and to be vulnerable.  It doesn't make you weak.  Why do so many of us try to shove those feelings deep down within ourselves?  We all just want to be accepted and loved, and as cliche as it is.. You've gotta fall in love with yourself first.  So take care of you, and please know that our studio is a safe place for you to come when you need to talk things out.  Happy International Woman's Day!
